Young people face several obstacles in their search for professional internships, even though these are essential for their integration into the job market.
Indeed, according to a United Nations report, more than one in four young people aged 15 to 29 in Tunisia are neither employed, in school, nor undergoing training.
Furthermore, nearly 38% of young Tunisians report being unemployed and actively looking for a job, compared to 25% of adults on a national scale.
In fact, the unemployment rate among young graduates remains alarming (Afrobarometer).
All of this can be partly explained by the insufficient number of internship opportunities available on the market to absorb the growing number of young graduates.
Additionally, there is a mismatch between the skills acquired during training and the requirements of employers. As a result, young people are less attractive to internships. Moreover, many young people lack professional contacts to help them find internships, and few companies offer them due to administrative constraints or a lack of resources to mentor the interns.
